Purrs 4 Peace Week 25: Peace with Gratitude

“Wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving.” - Kahlil Gibran

I am so grateful for all the blessings in my life. My family. Tuna. My friends. Salmon. My country. White fish. My home. Shrimp. You get the idea.

Sometimes making a “Gratitude” list alphabetically is good. The letter “A” is for Alley. That’s my name. (Many of you know Confucius Cat is my pen name). Mummy says she is so grateful that I came into her life...and boy am I grateful she came into mine. When she found me abandoned in an old cemetery, mummy did not want a cat. She had two dogs, one who was very elderly and sick. She thought a cat would be a responsibility she could not handle. But I insisted that we were meant to be together. I wouldn’t let her get away. And now she cannot imagine life without me. We have given each other so much love and laughter.....we are each other’s miracles.

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” — Albert Einstein

That for which we are grateful does not have to be perfect. Not much is perfect in this world. But we can still be thankful for the blessings that person or thing brings to us and our world even with their imperfections. Sometimes the imperfections are what make that person or thing beloved. And with gratitude for blessings comes more blessings. If we aren’t grateful for the blessings we have we won’t recognize the ones we get in the future either.

For example, when I want pounce treats I meow at mummy and try to herd her to the treat cabinet. But if I just focus on the lack of treats, I can overlook the fact that she put tuna into my bowl. Here I am complaining about lack when I’ve got abundance.

“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” — William Arthur Ward

So today we purr with an attitude of gratitude. We purr to recognize the many blessings we have in our own homes and in the world out large. Because if we purr with gratitude for the Peace we have....that peace will increase.
