Purrs 4 Peace Week 21- Announcement: Peace Now

“There never was a good war or bad peace.” - Benjamin Franklin

The statistics say it all:

US and Coalition Fatalities in Iraq = 4670 (source: icausualties.org)

US and Coalition Fatalities in Afghanistan = 1492 (source: icasualties.org)

According to the website Iraqbodycount.com, 92,392 to 100,867 Iraqis have died since 2003 under Operation Iraqui Freedom. Some 10,557 Afghanis have also been killed during Operation Enduring Freedom.

Confucius Cat says there can be no true peace obtained from war. Bring our brave sons and daughters home now.

“Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.

Week 21 of Purrs 4 Peace details are as follows:

  • Week twenty-one’s appointed time is Sunday, November 1, 2009.
  • Participants should purr for three minutes commencing at 3 p.m. EST (U.S.) which is 8:00 p.m. (20:00 hrs.) BST in the U.K.
  • The cat’s human staff should assist their cats with the project by stroking and nuzzling the cat at the appointed time.
  • Please post your cat name and the country you purr in at www.confuciuscat.blogspot.com as a COMMENT if you are participating in this historic project. (posting a link to your own website-if you have one-is encouraged.) Or let me know by message on twitter or facebook.
  • Posting purrs on facebook ( Acolytes of Confucius Cat or as friend to Alley Mason) and twitter (@ConfuciusCat) is encouraged, since it inspires purring in others, but not required. On twitter please use #purrs4peace in your tweets.

Peace * Paix * Frieden * Vrede * Pace * Paz * Shalom * Salaam * Om Shanti *

This week the purpose of the purrs is simple: PEACE. No need to say more.

I like this idea. First I've heard of it just tonight.

This fall we've taken to building a couple insulated cat shelters picture in our yard - one in back, one out front. Each has individual bedrooms for 4 cats. A momma and her two (used to be three) kittens have taken up residence in one. Two post-kitty sibblings permanently, and several adults rotationally, are residing in the other. They're all feed and tucked in before we hit the hay for our sleeps, and in the morning they're gathered around the front porch as if were some popular soup kitchen.

Thanks for assisting in PEACE.

We have a cat shelter of sorts...our indoors guys, who Purr for Peace are the Queen, a lovely Calico named BatGirl, her Consort, the Siamese named Pyewackit, the three stooges, Hound, Sonny and Cher...and the newest member of the family, a little orphan we call Lillibet. I found you through Bruce's Paws...how lucky was that?

I agree with Confucius. I guess one could enter into political debates whether to stay or not in Afghanistan or other wars. But today, I wish for our soldiers to come home to their families. I wish for a global cease fire.

For da rest of us, as Confucius said, peace starts within us. Purrs
