Purrs 4 Peace Week 27 : Feral cats are a priority

All beings seek for happiness; so let your compassion extend itself to all.
--Mahavamsa

What kind of world is it when we allow so many of the most innocent creatures to suffer in a miserable existence and die well before their time? There are many kinds of suffering in this world that don’t have easy solutions...this one does. The lives of feral and abandoned cats is an example of how skewed and out of order our priorities as a society have become. A problem, which should be so easily solvable, goes unsolved - and the unnecessary suffering continues year after year- because we don’t have the WILL to devote relatively minimal resources to a mandatory spay and neuter program. As a nation we have been willing to sign a blank check when funding war...but we begrudge every dollar that would be spent on issues related to bringing peace. It must change...especially when it comes to animals.

Until he extends the circle of compassion to all living things, man will not himself find peace.
--Albert Schweitzer

Had just left a comment and it disappeared! The problem with the over population of animals is one that everyone should chip in. It's not for the "crazy cat person" of the neighborhood only to shoulder spaying/neutering of animals only. Everyone should get involved. (Signed: Smokey8 fr Twitter)

I so agree with everything you have said. I am so saddened to see more and more homeless cats and to hear of their suffering.
Why are so many many humans so cold and uncaring about animals. Spaying and neutering is so important.

I agree with "anonymous", but unfortunately, when your town starts to know you as "the crazy cat person" they bring them all to you...not to mention, there seems to be a flashing neon sign that the injured, abandoned, and desperate animals can read in your nature...I've been blessed to know many furr-kids in my life that have run to me, rubbing and meowling furiously...almost to a scarey point!...just to PLEASE be taken care of...to get needed attention before their festering wounds slowly and painfully kill them! I have been ralleying here, along with the group I am thee most affiliaed with, but ALL of them are here...to implement a MANDATORY SPAY AND NEUTER LAW!! Unfortunately, the "breeders" have shot us down almost every time, but we ARE making headway. It's not the proposal we wanted, but at least it's a baby step in the right direction....
