Purrs 4 Peace Week 39: Make Education, Not War.

What are we doing? Where are our priorities?

Millions, probably billions being cut from education budgets across the United States. Yet what about the costs of war. Here are some staggering figures:

About $900 billion of taxpayer funds have been spent on Iraq as of September of 2010, averaging $7.3 BILLION (that’s billion with a B) per MONTH. 3.6 Billion per month in Afghanistan. That is $10.9 Billion total each and every month that just the U.S. spends on these wars.

It is estimated that it costs $390,000 to deploy one soldier to Iraq for one year. Recent estimates are $1 million per year for cost of keeping one soldier in Afghanistan.

The human costs are immeasurable in dollars. But the most recent statistics I have been able to gather indicate total FATALITIES of 6385 ( 4700 in Iraq and 1685 in Afghanistan) for U.S., U.K. and other coalition forces. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagggghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can we not see how foolish we are being? How monumentally stupid and wasteful?

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” - Nelson Mandela

Purrrrrr.....Imagine the seeds of understanding taking root in every person. #purrs4peace

Purrrrrrrrrrrrrring...... See that seed grow into a tree of knowledge about the importance of education. #purrs4peace.

Purrr....See the priorities of our governments shift: increasing funding of education, eliminating funding of war. #purrs4peace

Purrrr.....Imagine every child and every adult educated to the full extent of their his/her abilities. #purrs4peace

Purrr.....See our schools filled with students. See our prisons emptied of prisoners. #purrs4peace

Purrr....See ignorance replaced with knowledge. See illiteracy become obsolete. #purrs4peace

Purrrrr....Where there was lack, see abundance of resources. Where there was ambivalence, see determination to do what is right. #purrs4peace.

Purrrrr.....See the intellectual imprisonment of ignorance replaced with the individual freedom provided by education. #purrs4peace

See the bright light of PEACE prevail over the ignorance of WAR. #purrs4peace

It is so true. We could have used the money in much better and more productive things for humanity such as improving education in schools, saving lives, finding better medical treatments, improving living standards, creating jobs, helping homeless animals.... the list goes on... However, the reality is that politicians are the ones who have most control over taxpayers' money. I only wish they could make decisions based on people, not their own greed and their hunger for power.
